Animation

FINAL ANIMATED GIF IMAGES USED STORYBOARD ARTIST STATEMENT This project taught me the basics of Photoshop frame-by-frame animation. I wanted to use the 30 seconds to tell a narrative story. I feel like I was able to achieve this by introducing the characters, establishing a relationship then introducing the twist of the meteor. I took inspiration from the clip art images I found online, using the dinosaurs as characters in my story.

VIDEO ONE https://youtu.be/IO1yDUJl8qw Photoshop Tutorial | QUICK TIP | Basic Frame by Frame Animation This tutorial gave a quick overview of the basics in using the video timeline for frame by frame animation. This is different from in class, where we used the frame by frame timeline. I think that I prefer the frame by frame timeline because it's simpler and easier to use. The instructor advised to sketch out a movement guide. I think this would create smoother and more consistent movement between frames. He also went over the "enable onion skin" option, which provides a visual of your previous layer. This is helpful advise that I will apply in creating my animation. VIDEO TWO https://youtu.be/ipHlZ-EzEnI How to ANIMATE a Still Image: Photoshop Tutorial This tutorial provided a brief overview of animating still images in Photoshop. This is a unique an interesting use of the frame by frame animation function and I may use it in the future. The instructor made a selection...

Somewhere

Image
Original Image Me Final Image ARTIST STATEMENT I thought it would be fun to put myself into spider-man because I'm a huge fan of the Spider-Man franchise. I think it would of turned out better if I got a better photo of myself. I didn't have space to capture my full body and that limited what I was able to do. Overall, this was a fun project and I'd like to try it again at some point to take a little more time and make it look more realistic.

 1. This image would be difficult to photoshop myself into because of the distinct lighting and water splatter effect.  2.  This image gave me an idea for my "Somewhere" project. I own a spiderman costume like this one and think I may photoshop myself into the Spider-Man movie.  3. This picture made me laugh. 4. I would like to recreate this illusion of using framing to change the perceived environment. I've actually done this before in my short films, making a small patch of grass look like a beach.

BW to Color

Image
Original Picture: Monochromatic: Analogous: Custom: ARTIST STATEMENT: This project was an effective practice in creating and using masks in photoshop. The first picture was a little difficult and time-consuming but by the third picture, I was working smoothly. I think it's interesting how the different color schemes give each piece such a different mood. The custom scheme is bright and warm, creating a fun, pop-ey mood. The analogous scheme was very vibrant and green, creating a very alien, intense mood. The monochromatic scheme was shades of cool purple, creating a relaxed mood.

An image from The People's Portfolio that particularly resonated with me was the portrait of Anastasia Smirnova. Smirnova was an activist with the Russian LGBT Network and was arrested in 2014 for protesting at the opening of the Olympics, calling for the upholding of the non-discrimination clause in the Olympic Charter. In the documentary, Platon states that "Great design simplifies a very complex world." This ideal is emulated through this piece. The portrait's simplicity and sharp focus capture Smirnova's raw emotion. Her face is the singular point of focus in the image, with direct front lighting and a dark background. Attention is drawn to her vivid eyes and slight frown, creating an angry, bold mood. I resonate with the emotion of this piece because as a lesbian, I recognize her longing for justice and equal rights. It reminds me that people like Anastasia Smirnova, with human determination and a willingness to fight, bring about social change. Anastasia Smi...
